Frequently asked questions

What waste factor should I use?

10% for simple gable roofs, 15% for hip and cut-up roofs, and 20% for complex architectural roofs with dormers, valleys, or unusual geometry.

How many bundles are in a roofing square?

Three bundles of standard 3-tab or architectural shingles cover 100 sq ft (one square). Premium and designer shingles may require 4–5 bundles per square.

Do these calculators account for pitch?

Yes. Pitch multipliers automatically inflate footprint-based inputs so ordered quantities match the true sloped surface area.
